Rangers in position to listen on Frasor, Cotts

ARLINGTON -- With Neftali Feliz and Roman Mendez in the big leagues, the Rangers have positioned themselves to see what they can get for relievers Jason Frasor and Neal Cotts before the July 31 Trade Deadline.

They, along with Shawn Tolleson, have been the Rangers' most reliable setup relievers but are both free agents after this season. The Rangers were 13 games under .500 going into Tuesday's game with the Astros and their primary goal for the second half is to take a look at as many young players as possible.

According to Major League sources, Cotts and Frasor stand the best chance of being moved by the Rangers before July 31.

Cotts is 2-5 with a 3.65 ERA on the season. He has allowed four runs in his last eight games but still has a 2.48 ERA in his last 31 games. Cotts is likely to have some kind of market because there is always a need for left-handed pitching in the majors.

Frasor is 1-1 with a 2.86 ERA in 36 appearances this season despite having allowed runs in three consecutive outings. He has held left-handers to a .220 batting average while right-handers are hitting .250.

Mendez, 23 was called up on Monday after going 0-1 with a 4.02 ERA in 25 relief appearances at Triple-A Round Rock. He missed the final four months of last season while dealing with a stress fracture in his right elbow and was brought along slowly in Spring Training.
