Profar to split time at second with Garcia

ARLINGTON -- Jurickson Profar, MLB.com's top-rated prospect, was in the Rangers lineup on Monday, one day after being recalled from Triple-A Round Rock. With Ian Kinsler on the disabled list with a strained intercostal muscle in his right rib cage, manager Ron Washington said Profar and Leury Garcia will share time at second base.

"I'm going to try and get them equal playing time," Washington said. "This is Garcia's time to get at-bats as a utility guy, while Profar is coming up as a top prospect. He's going to get at-bats. But I'm also going to try and get at-bats for Leury. He needs to see pitching because once Kinsler gets back, Leury is going to be the one still here."

Profar brings a hot bat from Round Rock. He was hitting .424 in his final eight games and .333 in May after hitting .231 in April. He had an .859 OPS in May and a .765 OPS in April.

"For people who weren't there, they would say it was a slow start," Profar said. "But I was hitting the ball hard. I just go up there and try to have a good at-bat and hit the ball hard."

Profar went 0-for-2 with two RBIs in Monday's 9-2 loss.
