Hamilton to shift rehab to Double-A for 4 games

With Triple-A Round Rock hitting road, Rangers OF to play for Frisco beginning Saturday

ARLINGTON -- Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton is headed to Double-A Frisco for four games through at least next Wednesday, the Rangers have announced.

Hamilton, acquired from the Angels on April 27, is currently on medical rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Round Rock as he continues to recover from offseason right shoulder surgery. He will play for Round Rock on Thursday and Friday night.

Round Rock then goes on the road for a four-game series at Colorado Springs, so Hamilton will be assigned to Frisco beginning on Saturday. The RoughRiders have a four-game series against Corpus Christi that includes a 7:05 p.m. (CT) game on Saturday and a 4:05 p.m. game on Sunday.

Hamilton is scheduled to play on both Saturday and Sunday for Frisco at the Dr. Pepper Ballpark. He will have Monday off and then play again for Frisco on Tuesday and Wednesday. The RoughRiders play Midland at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday and at 11:05 a.m. on Wednesday.

At that point, Hamilton will be re-evaluated to see if he is ready to be activated. The earliest that would happen would be next Friday, when the Rangers open a three-game series with the Yankees in New York. The Rangers have a three-game series this weekend against the Indians, then don't return home until opening a four-game series with the Red Sox on May 28.

Hamilton underwent surgery on Feb. 4 and has not played in a Major League game since the Angels faced the Royals in the American League Division Series last October.
