Pudge's clinic among auction opportunities club offering for charity
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- A catching clinic with former All-Star catcher Ivan Rodriguez and the Rangers Ultimate Broadcast Experience are among the items the club is auctioning off as part of Major League Baseball's efforts to Stand Up to Cancer.
Baseball's Winter Meetings this week include an MLB.com Auction to benefit Stand Up To Cancer, which MLB has supported since 2008 as founding sponsor. Public relations representatives from all 30 clubs were inspired to act based on individual club members impacted by the disease, and they jointly organized the auction, which will be officially announced at a news conference on Monday in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., with MLB staff.
Bidding closes at 9 p.m. CT Thursday with 80 baseball-related experiences ranging from private pitching and batting lessons with players to lunches with general managers to team bus rides and meet-and-greets with Hall of Fame players.
The catching clinic with Rodriguez is for a youth baseball team and also includes a suite to a Rangers game during the 2014 season. The Rangers Ultimate Broadcasting Experience includes four tickets to a Rangers game, dinner in the press dining room, a pregame meet-and-greet with Rangers broadcasters and one inning in the broadcasting booth for the winner and three guests.
Other items being auctioned by the Rangers include a Derek Holland autographed jersey and a Yu Darvish autographed baseball. There are also several baseballs used during a game in 2013 that are up for auction.
