Rangers place OF Delino Deshields on 15-day disabled list; recall 2B Rougned Odor from Round Rock

The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has placed outfielder Delino DeShields on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain. To take his place on the roster, the team has recalled second baseman Rougned Odor from Triple-A Round Rock.

DeShields was injured in the 6th inning of yesterday's game against Minnesota while reaching for an eventual triple hit by Shane Robinson. He has batted .269 with 9 doubles, 4 triples, 12 RBI, and a team-high 32 runs scored over 48 games with the Rangers this season in his first major league action. His 4 triples are tied for 4th-most in the American League, while his 13 stolen bases, most of any rookie this season, rank tied for 5th in the A.L. DeShields has started the last 14 straight and 20 of the last 22 games for Texas in the leadoff spot in the batting order. The first date he would be eligible to return is June 30.

Odor was the club's Opening Day second baseman before he was optioned to Round Rock on May 11. He has compiled a .352 (38-108) average with 5 home runs and 19 RBI in 30 games for the Express since being optioned. Odor has 12 walks and just 10 strikeouts at Triple-A, posting a .426 on-base percentage and .639 slugging mark for a 1.065 OPS figure. He had 8 consecutive multi-hit games from June 2-11.

Over 29 games with the Rangers this season, Odor has batted .144 with one home run and 9 RBI. The 21-year-old started 23 of the club's first 24 games this season at second base. His last game with Texas was May 8 at Tampa Bay, and his last start came May 7 at Tampa Bay.

After today's transactions, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster. With the addition of DeShields, the club now has 14 players currently on the disabled list.
