Rangers prospect Gallo launches sixth homer

Third baseman Joey Gallo, the Rangers' No. 5 prospect and reigning Minor League home run champion, hit his sixth home run Thursday night, tying him for the Minor League lead. Gallo's latest homer helped power Class A Advanced Myrtle Beach to a 9-2 victory against Potomac.

Gallo, ranked No. 90 on MLB.com's Top 100 prospects list, finished the game 1-for-3 with two walks (one was intentional) and three runs. He is hitting .318 with a .733 slugging percentage this season.

In 2013, Gallo became the first teenager in 52 years to hit 40 home runs in a season. To do so, he averaged a home run every 10.28 at-bats, an impressive rate. But he has started this season on an even better pace, averaging a home run every 7.5 at-bats.

Center fielder Nick Williams, the Rangers' No. 6 prospect, also helped lead the Pelicans offense Thursday. He went 2-for-5 with a double and a run.
