Rangers purchase contract of INF Adam Rosales from Round Rock, option INF Luis Sardinas to Round Rock

RHP Cory Burns sent to Tampa Bay on waiver claim

Baltimore, Md. - The Texas Rangers formally announced today that the club has purchased the contract of infielder Adam Rosales (#9) from Triple-A Round Rock and optioned infielder Luis Sardinas to Round Rock. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Cory Burns has been sent to Tampa Bay on a waiver claim which makes room for Rosales on the major league 40-man roster.

Rosales, 31, will be in uniform and available for tonight's series opener in Baltimore. This is his first stint with the Rangers this year as he has spent the season at Round Rock, batting .276 (75-272) with 7 home runs, 16 doubles, 3 triples, and 43 RBI in 72 games. He has been on the club's temporarily inactive list since Friday for paternity leave. Over his last 55 games in the Pacific Coast League beginning April 24, Rosales has batted .296 (64-216).

Rosales was with the Rangers at the end of the 2013 season and entered spring training on the 40-man roster before batting .191 over 26 games in Cactus League play. He was designated for assignment at the end of spring training on March 30, cleared waivers and was assigned outright to Round Rock on April 2. He owns a career .219 batting average over 319 big league games with the Reds (2008-09), Athletics (2010-13), and Rangers (2013).

Sardinas has batted .288 (19-66) with 2 doubles, no home runs, and 4 RBI in 26 games with Texas spanning two stints (April 19-26 and May 8-June 29). He has started 17 games in his first major league action: 12 at second base, 3 at shortstop, and 2 at third base.

Burns has spent the entire season with Triple-A Round Rock, going 2-2 with a 7.44 ERA (27 ER/32.2 IP) over 20 games/one start. His last appearance for the Express came on June 19 vs. Sacramento and he was placed on the disabled list June 21. Burns was activated from the disabled list on Saturday, but did not pitch for the Express this weekend due to a pair of postponements in Memphis.

With today's moves, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.

DRAFT SIGNING: The Rangers have signed left-handed pitcher Joe Filomeno, the club's 15th round selection in the 2014 June draft out of the University of Louisville. Filomeno has been assigned to the Arizona League Rangers. With his signing, the club has now signed 26 of its 40 draft selections.
