Rangers recall RHP Spencer Patton from Round Rock; Option RHP Roman Mendez to Round Rock

The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Spencer Patton (#44) from Triple-A Round Rock and optioned right-handed pitcher Roman Mendez to Round Rock.

Patton, 27, will be seeking his first action with Texas this season after making his major league debut for the Rangers in 2014. He went 1-0 with a 0.96 ERA (1 ER/9.1 IP) over 9 relief outings for the Rangers last year, holding opponents to a .182 average with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. He posted no record with a 6.23 ERA (3 ER/4.1 IP) in 5 Cactus League outings for Texas this spring before he was optioned to Round Rock on March 23. 

Patton has posted no record with a 0.96 ERA (1 ER/9.1 IP) over 8 relief outings at Triple-A this year, converting both save chances. Opposing batters have hit .216 (8-37) with 4 walks and 14 strikeouts against Patton in the Pacific Coast League. He pitched a scoreless 8th inning in his last outing yesterday vs. Nashville in a 5-4 Express win (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO, 19 pitches/12 strikes).

Mendez made the Rangers Opening Day roster for the first time and went 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA (7 ER/11.2 IP) in 12 relief outings for the club, allowing runs in 3 of his last 4 appearances.

With today's moves, the Rangers major league roster remains at the 40-man limit.
