Rangers reinstate 3B Adrian Beltre from 15-day disabled list; option RHP Jon Edwards to Round Rock

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced prior to tonight's game that the club has reinstated third baseman Adrian Beltre from the 15-day disabled list. To make room on the roster for Beltre, the team has optioned right-handed pitcher Jon Edwards to Triple-A Round Rock.

Beltre was formally placed on the disabled list on June 2, retroactive to June 1, with a sprained left thumb. He suffered his left thumb injury while sliding into second base during the fifth inning of a game on May 31 against the Boston Red Sox. He also had a laceration of the thumb which required 4 stitches. Beltre has posted a .257 batting average with 6 home runs and 18 RBI in 51 games for the Rangers this season. He had played in 191 consecutive games for Texas prior to his disabled list stint, the eighth-longest streak in club history.

Beltre hit his 400th career home run on May 15 vs. Cleveland, becoming just the 5th player to appear primarily at third base to reach that mark. His 2391 career games at third base are 3rd-most in major league history behind only Brooks Robinson (2870) and Graig Nettles (2412).

Edwards has no record and a 6.00 ERA (4 ER/6.0 IP) over 11 relief appearances for the Rangers this season, spanning 2 stints in the big leagues (April 11, May 27-June 22). He has spent the rest of the year at Round Rock, where he owns a 1.15 ERA (2 ER/15.2 IP) and 13 saves over 17 relief outings for the Express.

With today's moves, the Rangers are still at the 40-player limit on the club's major league roster.
