Rangers stay positive while injury woes mount

ARLINGTON -- With Jim Adduci the latest casualty Saturday, the Rangers now have 10 players on the disabled list -- the most in the Major Leagues. Yet they had managed a respectable 10-7 record entering Saturday. Manager Ron Washington praised the team's ability to piece together wins with a group of players who weren't expected to play key roles for the Rangers.

"Sometimes some teams get hit by these type of injuries," Washington said. "So far our depth has shown up and has been able to keep us moving forward. The organization and the players that are having to step into these situations deserve a lot of credit. We could be in that 'woe is us' situation, but we control our attitude and that's not our attitude."

Right now, the Rangers are without their expected starters at catcher (Geovany Soto), second base (Jurickson Profar) and third base (Adrian Beltre), plus two pitchers who figure to be in the starting rotation when they return (Matt Harrison and Derek Holland), and two pitchers who began the season in the rotation (Tanner Scheppers and Joe Saunders). Adduci, left-handed reliever Joseph Ortiz and outfielder Engel Beltre round out the extended disabled list for Texas.

As of Saturday, only five MLB teams had more than half as many players on the DL as the Rangers did, and no other team had more than seven players on the DL. Five of the Rangers' injured players are on the 60-day DL; the other five are on the 15-day DL.
