Rangers successfully challenge call vs. A's
ARLINGTON -- The Rangers were able to get a call overturned in the fifth inning of Sunday night's series finale with the Athletics, but it didn't prevent Oakland from scoring an extra run.
The Athletics had Josh Donaldson on first with one out when Jed Lowrie hit a line drive back to the mound. Starter Miles Mikolas knocked down the ball with his glove, and it rolled to the left of the mound.
Mikolas scrambled to recover and threw to first base. The throw was off target and to the inside part of first base. First-base umpire Will Little ruled Lowrie safe, but first baseman J.P. Arencibia protested that he tagged the runner as he went by before reaching the base.
Manager Ron Washington requested a review, and the call was overturned. Lowrie was out, but Donaldson went to second and scored on a double by Eric Sogard to give the Athletics a four-run lead.
