Rangers to activate Ogando for Wednesday start

BOSTON -- The Rangers will activate Alexi Ogando off the disabled list on Wednesday so he can pitch against the Red Sox. It will be his first start since May 15 against the Athletics. He has been sidelined with inflammation in his right triceps muscle.

Ogando's return allows the Rangers to give three of their pitchers some extra rest. Derek Holland has been moved back to Thursday, Nick Tepesch on Friday and Yu Darvish on Saturday. All three will be pitching on five days rest rather than their normal four.

"Whenever we can arrange those type of situations and give them extra rest, we want to do it," manager Ron Washington said.

The Rangers will have to make a roster move before Wednesday's game and will likely send either left-hander Joseph Ortiz or right-hander Ross Wolf to Triple-A Round Rock. Ortiz has been with the Rangers since Opening Day, but Neal Cotts, who was called up on May 21, has emerged as the second left-handed setup reliever in the bullpen. Cotts has pitched in seven of the Rangers last 11 games while Ortiz has appeared in just two games since May 21.

Wolf has also pitched just twice since being called up on May 22 but could give the Rangers a true long reliever. They haven't had that since Derek Lowe was released.
