Rangers to review medical practices

ARLINGTON -- General manager Jon Daniels said the Rangers are going to review their entire medical and training procedures after all the injuries that have hit the team since the offseason.

"We're looking at everything," Daniels said. "It's a little tough in the middle of it to take a step back. Right now we're trying to get everybody healthy. But we're certainly going to evaluate everything, the process and the practice."

The Rangers made one change last year when head trainer Jamie Reed was promoted to medical trainer, giving him responsibility for overseeing the organization's entire medical operations, including training, conditioning and rehabilitation at both the Major and Minor League levels.

Kevin Harmon and Matt Lucero are the trainers for the Major League team with Jose Vazquez as the strength and conditioning coach. Dr. Keith Meister, whose specialty is orthopedics, is in his 11th season as team physician although the Rangers rely on specialists in a number of other areas.

The Rangers have 13 players on the disabled list, five more than any other team. They have used the disabled list 16 times, four more than any other team. Robbie Ross Jr. is the only current member of the rotation who was on the Opening Day roster.

The Rangers used the disabled list 19 times last season, 12 in 2012 and 19 in 2011 when they last went to the World Series.
