Rays acquire right-handed pitcher Steve Geltz from Angels

ST. PETERSBURG, FL-The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired right-handed pitcher Steve Geltz from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for right-handed pitcher Dane De La Rosa.  Geltz will be assigned to Triple-A Durham upon his arrival to Rays minor league camp.

Geltz, 25, started the spring in major league camp with the Angels and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake yesterday.  In 2012, the right-hander made two appearances with the Angels but split the majority of the season between Double-A Arkansas and Salt Lake.  He combined at both levels to go 3-1 with a 3.05 ERA (59-IP, 20-ER) over 46 appearances. Over five minor league seasons, he has a 19-6 record with a 3.69 ERA and 341 strikeouts in 253.1 innings pitched.

De La Rosa, 30, began spring training as a non-roster invite in major league camp and was reassigned to Triple-A on March 23.  He spent parts of two seasons in the majors with the Rays and has a 3.75 ERA over nine professional seasons.
