Rays DFA righty Dominguez

ARLINGTON -- Following Saturday night's game, the Rays reinstated left-hander Drew Smyly from the 60-day disabled list and optioned right-hander Kirby Yates to Triple-A Durham.

To make room for Smyly on the 40-man roster before his return to the mound on Sunday against the Rangers, the Rays designated right-hander Jose Dominguez for assignment.

The Rays have made 123 roster moves since Opening Day.

"I just think [the move was made] more for a need," Rays manager Kevin Cash said of Dominguez. "He's a guy that maybe hasn't shown the consistency we're looking for.

"... Hopefully he clears [waivers] and we're able to keep him in our system. Because it is a big arm that we would value. If he could ever get some consistency, that would be beneficial to have."

Dominguez went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in four games for the Rays this season. He went 0-2 with a 6.26 ERA in 25 appearances at Durham.
