Rays option Archer to Triple-A Durham
ST. PETERSBURG -- Chris Archer has been optioned back to Triple-A Durham.
Bill Chastain is a reporter for MLB.com. The Rays will make a corresponding move Thursday, which will likely see DH Luke Scott get activated off the disabled list.
Archer was recalled by the Rays on June 20 to make two starts while Jeremy Hellickson recovered from a fatigued right shoulder. The right-hander went 0-2 with a 3.09 ERA in those starts against the Nationals and Royals.
Archer is the second-ranked prospect on Tampa Bay's Top 20 Prospects list and the 63rd overall ranked prospect on MLB.com's Top 100 Prospects list.
Archer went 4-8 with a 4.81 ERA at Durham this season.
