R.B.I. Baseball 14 a hit with Orioles' Jones

DETROIT -- Hitting a baseball is hard. Hitting a baseball in video games? Not so much, which is why Orioles center fielder Adam Jones has had so much fun playing the newly revamped classic R.B.I. Baseball 14 game.

R.B.I. Baseball 14 is now available on Xbox 360, Sony PS3 and Apple App Store. Jones is a spokesman for the new video game, and he proudly announced that he beat pal Quintin Berry and the game's creator recently, including topping Berry with the mercy rule.

"The game is fun," said Jones, who got to play for the first time at the end of Spring Training. "It brings back the old '90s feeling of the game and it's like playing Super Nintendo all over again. I miss those days."

The game, last released in the late 1990s, is different than your average video game.

R.B.I. Baseball 14 isn't as much of a simulator like the popular MLB The Show franchise. Instead, it is an arcade-style game, similar to the original version. The new game is also designed to be fast paced, so the user can play a full nine innings in roughly 20 minutes.

Jones said he prefers the simplicity of the game, and the center fielder was excited to get the chance to play early.

"You got all these games that are super high-tech. This game is just straight to the point -- swing the bat, run the bases," Jones said. "Nowadays you can have one guy lead off and have one guy steal, and it's too technical for me. I can't be thinking too much."

Jones laughed after his last statement, before adding -- again -- how good he was already at test driving the new game.

"It's been fun," he said. "I've had fun having to use that mercy rule."
