Sox to start '16 in Cleveland, Toronto

First game at Fenway Park set for April 11 vs. Orioles

BOSTON -- With a wave of young players providing the Red Sox with production and energy of late, there is already great excitement for 2016. That season will begin on April 4 in Cleveland with the start of a three-game series.

In conjunction with Major League Baseball, the Red Sox released their tentative schedule for next season on Tuesday. The opening road trip will conclude with a three-game series in Toronto.

Tentative 2016 Red Sox schedule

Fenway Park will open its gates on April 11, when the Orioles come to Boston for three games. The Blue Jays then come to town for four games, including the annual Patriots' Day game on April 18, and the opening homestand concludes with three games against the Rays.

For fans looking to make a nice baseball getaway, the July 28-Aug. 7 trip is one to circle. That 11-game set starts with four games in Anaheim, followed by four in Seattle and three at Dodger Stadium.

The Red Sox will also be in San Diego from Sept. 5-7, after three games in Oakland. And they make a two-game trip to San Francisco to play the Giants from June 7-8.

The National League teams that will visit Boston in 2016 are the Braves (April 25-26), Rockies (May 24-26), Giants (July 19-20) and D-backs (Aug. 12-14).

The first rivalry showdown against the Yankees takes place at Fenway from April 29-May 1. Boston goes to Yankee Stadium from May 6-8. The Yankees also come to town from Aug. 9-11, and for a four-game set from Sept. 15-18.

Right after the All-Star break, the Sox go to Yankee Stadium from July 15-17. Their final trip to New York could have postseason implications, in that it takes place from Sept. 27-29. The Red Sox complete the regular season at home with three game against the Blue Jays (Sept. 30-Oct. 2).
