Red Sox announce roster moves
BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox announced the following roster moves today:
- Right-hander Alex Wilson was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right thumb sprain. To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.
- Right-hander Jose De La Torre was optioned to Pawtucket. To fill his spot on the 25-man roster, right-hander Brandon Workman was selected to the active major league roster from Pawtucket.
Both Bradley and Workman will be available for tonight's game against the Mariners in Seattle at 10:10 p.m. ET. Workman will wear No. 67.

Bradley, 23, rejoins the Red Sox for his third major league stint of 2013. With Pawtucket, he has hit .297 (55-for-185) with 18 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, and 21 RBI, and has scored 33 runs in 45 games. Defensively, he has appeared primarily in center field (30 games), and has also played five games in right field and four in left field. Entering this season, Bradley had not played professionally above the Double-A level, but made the Red Sox Opening Day roster out of spring training as a non-roster invitee. With the Red Sox this season, he has hit .154 (8-for-52) with three doubles, one home run and six RBI in 19 games.
The Red Sox 2012 Minor League Pitcher of the Year, Workman, 24, began 2013 with Double-A Portland, and was promoted to Pawtucket in early June. Between both clubs, he has combined to go 8-2 with a 3.21 ERA (36 ER/101.0 IP), 30 walks, and 108 strikeouts in 17 games (16 starts). This season he is leading Red Sox minor leaguers in strikeouts and wins (tied) and ranks second in ERA among full-season pitchers in Boston's farm system. A second-round selection (57th overall) by Boston in the 2010 June Draft, Workman has gone 24-17 with a 3.50 ERA (144 ER/370.2 IP), 88 walks, and 353 strikeouts in 68 career minor league games (67 starts). Following last season, he was rated by Baseball America as having the best curveball and best control in the Red Sox minor league system.
The 26-year-old Wilson suffered the right thumb injury in last night's game at Seattle. He has appeared in 26 games for the Red Sox this year, all in relief, and has gone 1-1 with a 4.88 ERA (15 ER/27.2 IP), 14 walks and 22 strikeouts. Wilson made his major league debut for the club this season on April 11 against Baltimore. He is the first Saudi Arabian-born pitcher in major league history.
De La Torre, 27, has had three stints with Boston this season, and was recalled by the club this past Friday. In his four games for the Red Sox in 2013, has a no record with a 7.71 ERA (6 ER/7.0 IP), six walks and nine strikeouts. He will rejoin Pawtucket where he has gone 3-1 with one save, a 1.64 ERA (7 ER/38.1 IP), 19 walks, and 45 strikeouts, while holding International League opponents to a .148 batting average (20-for-135).
