BOSTON -- Red Sox outfielder Allen Craig wil be back in game action Monday, when he starts a Minor League rehab assignment. The outfielder arrived to Fenway Park on Aug. 1, and played that night, only to sprain his left foot running the bases.

Craig will play for Triple-A Pawtucket. At the most, he will probably play three days in the Minors. He could return to the Red Sox by the end of the four-game series against the Angels or the beginning of next weekend's three-game set vs. Seattle.

"We're hopeful that he goes out on a rehab assignment early this coming week, possibly as early as Monday," said Red Sox manager John Farrell before Friday's game. "He came out of [Thursday's] work of full BP, and some running in the outfield in good fashion. And he'll go through three more days of work prior to heading out."

The Red Sox will also get another player back in the coming days in backup catcher David Ross, who got hurt the same night as Craig, suffering a rupture of the right plantar fascia.

Ross could be activated as early as Sunday, the first day he is eligible.

"But we've still got to get some steps accomplished with David. He's set to catch a bullpen [session] today," said Farrell. "He started to do a little bit more running [Thursday] and came out of it feeling OK. He's making adequate progress as well."
