Red Sox recall outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr.
Right-hander Alex Wilson Optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket
The Boston Red Sox today recalled outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, right-hander Alex Wilson was optioned to Pawtucket after last night's game.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.
For Bradley, 23, this marks his second stint with the Red Sox this year. In 20 games since his April 18 option to Pawtucket, he is hitting .354 (28-for-79) with seven doubles, a triple, two home runs, nine RBI, 15 runs, and 13 walks while making appearances at all three outfield positions and designated hitter. Bradley has hit safely in each of his last 12 games with the PawSox, going 21-for-48 (.438) with nine extra-base hits (6 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 homers), seven RBI, and 11 runs scored in that time. He made his major league debut with the Red Sox on Opening Day and appeared in 12 games (10 starts) from April 1-17, all in left field, going 3-for-31 (.097) at the plate with one double, three RBI, five runs, and six walks.
Wilson, 26, made his major league debut with Boston on April 11 and has gone 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA (5 ER/18.0 IP) and 15 strikeouts in 16 relief appearances with the Red Sox. He returns to Pawtucket where he was 1-0 with a 10.12 ERA (3 ER/2.2 IP) in two relief outings to begin the season.
