Right-Hander Jose De La Torre Optioned to Pawtucket

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-hander Alfredo Aceves from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, right-hander Jose De La Torre was optioned to Pawtucket after last night's game. Aceves is scheduled to start tonight's game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

For Aceves, 30, this marks his third major league stint of 2013. In seven games for the Red Sox this season, including four starts, he has a 2-1 record with a 6.57 ERA (18 ER/24.2 IP), 15 walks, and 19 strikeouts. He held the Philadelphia Phillies to one run over a 6.0-inning start in his last outing for Boston on May 27. In five starts with the PawSox this season, he is 2-1 with a 3.52 ERA (12 ER/30.2 IP), 12 walks, and 27 strikeouts.

De La Torre, 27, gave up one run over 3.1 innings of relief in last night's loss to the Rays after being recalled for his second career major league stint prior to the game. He has allowed three runs over 5.1 innings (5.06 ERA) with five strikeouts in three career major league games, all for the Red Sox this season out of the bullpen. In 16 relief appearances for Pawtucket this year, De La Torre is 2-1 with one save, a 2.17 ERA (7 ER/29.0 IP), 17 walks, and 32 strikeouts.
