Red Sox win challenge on forceout in second inning

TORONTO -- With two out in the bottom of the second inning, Toronto's Jose Reyes hit a grounder to shortstop Jonathan Herrera and was ruled safe on a bang-bang play at first base.

Red Sox manager John Farrell didn't see the same thing as first-base umpire Marty Foster and left the dugout to challenge the play. Farrell proved to be right in his belief that the ball beat Reyes to the bag.

After just one minute, umpires ruled that Boston's challenge was successful and the call was overturned.

It proved to be a big play for Boston, as right-hander Clay Buchholz struggled in the first inning, allowing three runs in the opening frame. Buchholz avoided facing the meat of Toronto's order with a runner on base.
