Rebuilding Reds ponder big moves at Meetings

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Reds have been listening to offers and exploring trades for some of their players much of the offseason. Will this be the week they pull off some major moves?

With all 30 clubs gathered together in one place for the 2015 Winter Meetings at the spacious Opryland Hotel, it certainly can't hurt the chances for a deal -- or deals -- to be made.

The meetings formally begin on Monday and run until Thursday morning, but Reds president of baseball operations Walt Jocketty, general manager Dick Williams and their staff arrived on Sunday afternoon. Like most clubs, they will be getting to work quickly and having discussions with teams and agents.

Coming off a 98-loss season, the rebuilding Reds have been looking toward the future. The club has reportedly traded All-Star Aroldis Chapman to the Dodgers for two prospects, though neither club has confirmed the deal.

"We really haven't had a lot of discussion, with the exception of one player maybe," said Jocketty on Saturday during Redsfest, alluding to Chapman. "Other than that, it's been pretty quiet. I don't know what's going to happen when we get to Nashville. It's been pretty slow since Thanksgiving."

The Reds have been willing to listen on any player on the roster, especially those closing in on free agency. While Chapman is one year away, right fielder Jay Bruce has one more guaranteed year on his contract and a club option for 2017. Third baseman Todd Frazier has two years before he can hit the open market.
