Reds' matchup with Cubs gets rained out

CINCINNATI -- Following a four-hour, 13-minute rain delay, the Reds-Cubs game scheduled for Saturday afternoon was postponed. A makeup date will be announced at a later time.

Fans holding tickets for Saturday's rainout game may present their same ticket at the gate for the rescheduled game with no exchange necessary. Ticket exchanges are available at Great American Ball Park throughout the regular season in advance of game day only.

Rain soaked Great American Ball Park for most of the morning and much of the afternoon, making it impossible to start at the scheduled time of 1:10 ET. The tarp was pulled off the field, briefly, around 4 p.m., but a few minutes later, the field was covered again.

"As you guys know, with Cincinnati, it's challenging to get it right," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "We got it right. It just looked like the [bad] weather was going to be out of here -- first at 1:30, then at 2 o'clock, then at 3 o'clock, then 4:30."

The forecast was looking clear enough that officials were fairly certain the game would start around 4:35 ET. That time came and went without any field preparation from the grounds crew.

"By the time we got out there to get the pitchers stretched out, it was still raining," Price said. "There was certainly no desire to keep teams and players and staffs and fans here for four hours. Most of the time we were out there, it seemed like we were going to have more than enough time to play a game without rain interruption."

Saturday was the fourth rain delay of the season for the Reds, and all have been at Great American Ball Park. The postponement was also the 10th in the 13 seasons at Great American Ball Park.

The Reds-Cubs series is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET. Saturday's starter, Anthony DeSclafani, will start the game. Saturday's Cubs starter, Jake Arrieta, will also pitch on Sunday. The two teams will play again in Cincinnati from July 20-22 and Sept. 29-Oct. 1.

The Reds' rotation will stay on schedule moving forward.

"Everyone gets pushed back a day," Price said. "We're in the middle of 17 straight. At this point in time, the extra day is a bonus."

Price also indicated the lineup would stay the same, as well.
