Reds option Villarreal to make room for Bailey

ST. LOUIS -- To make room on the roster for activating Saturday's starting pitcher Homer Bailey from the 15-day disabled list, the Reds optioned reliever Pedro Villarreal to Triple-A Louisville.

Villarreal was recalled on Wednesday and pitched two scoreless innings with one hit and one strikeout during a 5-0 loss to the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Bailey began the season on the DL, as he was in the final stages of his rehabilitation from September surgery to repair a torn flexor mass tendon near his right elbow.
