Reds' prospect Lively strikes out 10 in win

Right-hander Ben Lively, the Reds' No. 13 prospect, continued his dominant start to the season Wednesday. He struck out a career-high 10 batters in six shutout innings, helping lead Class A Advanced Bakersfield to an 8-3 victory at Stockton.

Through 17 innings in three starts, Lively has yet to walk a batter and has 23 strikeouts. His latest outing extended his scoreless innings streak to 12 and lowered his ERA to 0.53.

Lively's stuff and deception earn some comparisons to Reds left-hander Tony Cingrani. Like Cingrani, Lively has been nearly unhittable at the outset of his professional career. In 58 innings since the Reds picked him in the fourth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, Lively has struck out 79 batters and posted a 0.76 ERA and a 0.74 WHIP.

Bakersfield's offense was led Wednesday by left fielder Jesse Winker, the Reds' No. 4 prospect. He went 2-for-5 and hit his second home run of the season.
