Reds select pitchers with second, third picks of 2015 Draft

CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati Reds Senior Director of Amateur Scouting Chris Buckley tonight announced the selections of RHP Antonio Santillan (6-3, 210) from Seguin High School (Arlington, TX) with the team's second pick (49th overall) of the 2015 first-year player draft, followed by senior RHP Tanner Rainey (6-3, 215) from the University of West Alabama (hometown Folsom, LA) in Competitive Balance Round B (71st overall).

Santillan, 18, is a Perfect Game first-team All-America selection and member of the Texas All-Region first team.

Rainey, 22, last season for UWA went 4-1 with a 1.59 ERA and 9 saves in 26 apps (28ip, 11h, 14bb, 50k).

Santillan and Rainey join C Tyler Stephenson (6-4, 220) from Kennesaw Mountain High School in Marietta, GA, who was selected with the team's first pick (11th overall).

Stephenson, 18, was rated by Baseball America and MLB.com the best catcher in this year's draft, the 15th-best prospect overall. This spring he hit .415 with 8 HR and 25 RBI for KMHS.

Stephenson is the fifth catcher taken by the Reds in the draft's first round, joining Dan LaMar (20th pick in 1979), Dan Wilson (7th in 1990), Devin Mesoraco (15th in 2007) and Yasmani Grandal (12th in 2010).

The first-year draft will have 40 rounds. Rounds 3-10 will begin at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, and Rounds 11-40 will begin at noon Wednesday.
