Reds will welcome Phils to GABP to open 2016

Tentative schedule for Interleague Play has Cincinnati facing AL West

CINCINNATI -- The Reds will open the 2016 season on April 4 vs. the Phillies, as Major League Baseball released all 30 clubs' tentative schedules on Tuesday.

Game times have yet to be determined. Per tradition, the Reds get to open the season at Great American Ball Park.

Tentative 2016 Reds schedule

Next season's Interleague Play slate has the Reds facing clubs from the American League West -- with road trips against the Astros (June 17-19), Rangers (June 21-22) and Angels (Aug. 29-31). Visiting Cincinnati will be the Mariners (May 20-22), A's (June 10-12) and Texas (Aug. 23-24).

The Interleague rivalry series vs. the Indians will resume with four games in two cities -- at Cleveland on May 16-17 and Cincinnati on May 18-19.

There will be some long road trips this season for the Reds -- five of them will cover three cities. There will also be three separate swings out to the West Coast.

As has been the case the past several years, the schedule skews heavily to intra-division rivals -- especially in the final month of the season. Of the Reds' final 29 games, 26 will be played against fellow National League Central clubs the Cardinals, Pirates, Cubs and Brewers.

The regular season concludes at home vs. the Cubs on Oct. 2.
