Huff gets into first spring game with Giants

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Competing for a long-relief role, Giants left-hander David Huff made his Cactus League debut in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs by pitching the sixth inning.

Huff, whose activity has been delayed by shoulder problems, yielded a run, largely due to a wild pitch he threw. That moved Ryan Roberts into scoring position for Emilio Bonifacio, who hit a two-out RBI single. Huff then induced Ryan Kalish's popup, temporarily preserving the Giants' 2-1 lead.

"I thought he threw the ball fine his first time out," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "We'll try to get him stretched out. It was good to see him pitch an inning."

Acquired from the Yankees for cash considerations in January, Huff is among a group of long-relief candidates that includes Yusmeiro Petit and Kameron Loe.
