Rockies and Dexter Fowler avoid arbitration by agreeing to one-year deal
DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club and outfielder Dexter Fowler have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, per club policy.
Fowler, 25, hit .266 (128-for-481) with 35 doubles, 15 triples, 5 home runs, 45 RBI and 84 runs scored in 125 games during his third full Major League season in 2011. In his career, Fowler owns a .262 (361-for-1379) batting average with 84 doubles, 39 triples, 15 home runs, 115 RBI and 233 runs scored in 405 Major League games, all with the Rockies. Fowler has set the Rockies’ single season triples record in each of the last two seasons (14 triples in 2010, 15 in 2011). Fowler has played all but 1.0 inning (right field) of his Major League career in center field (3,048.1 innings). The switch-hitter has batted .280 (120-for-428) against left-handed pitchers in his career, and .253 (241-for-951) against right-handed pitchers. Fowler was originally selected by Colorado in the 14th round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft out of Milton High School in Alpharetta, GA.
