Rockies connect for four homers vs. Angels

Tulowitzki goes deep twice; McKenry, Rutledge also contribute dingers

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Troy Tulowitzki hit two of four Colorado homers off right-hander Joe Blanton to lead the Rockies to a 7-2 win over the Angels on Friday at Salt River Fields.

"Guys swung the bats well against Blanton, who's a good pitcher," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "It's a good sign the way we swung the bats."

Tulowitzki crushed the first offering he saw for a solo homer in the first and followed two innings later with a two-run blast for his first two homers of the spring.

"He's one of the best in the game," said Weiss. "You saw the game today. Just one of the best there is."

Rockies catcher Michael McKenry added a solo homer in the third, and second baseman Josh Rutledge hit a two-run shot in the fourth to end Blanton's outing after 3 1/3 innings. The veteran allowed seven runs on eight hits and a walk.

The Angels' first run came in the third inning, on a sacrifice fly by center fielder Collin Cowgill, and Andrew Romine went deep in the seventh.

Rockies left-hander Jorge De La Rosa rebounded from a subpar Cactus League opener by allowing one run on three hits and striking out two over three innings.

Left fielder Tim Wheeler added an RBI double for Colorado.

Up next: Left-hander Brett Anderson faces his former team on Saturday when the Rockies host the A's at 1:10 p.m. MT. First baseman Michael Cuddyer (left shoulder) is expected to return to the lineup.
