Rockies place Lyles on DL, recall Kahnle
DENVER -- The Rockies placed right-hander Jordan Lyles on the 15-day disabled list on Monday with a sprained left toe -- a move that came just one day after his second consecutive injury-shortened start. Colorado also recalled right-handed reliever Tommy Kahnle from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Lyles originally sprained his toe on May 23 against the Giants, causing him to exit after just four innings. His next start was scheduled for last Friday in Philadelphia, but Lyles was pushed back to Sunday, where he faced just six hitters before leaving the game.
"We think he's going to need a little time this time around," manager Walt Weiss said before Monday's game with the Dodgers. "Not sure exactly how long, but long enough to put him on the DL."

Sunday's final blow happened in the second inning, when Lyles had to spin around and dodge a Cody Asche comebacker. The movement aggravated his injured toe, and Lyles said he'll visit a foot specialist on Tuesday to see if surgery is required.
"My biggest concern yesterday was to work towards home plate and not spin off," Lyles said. "We were doing a good job, and then I had to get out of the way."

Weiss said Kahnle arrives with the Rockies needing a bullpen arm -- a byproduct of the club's current 10-game homestand that includes Tuesday's doubleheader.
Kahnle spent all of last season in the bullpen, compiling a 2-1 record with a 4.19 ERA in 54 appearances. His 68 2/3 innings ranked first among Rockies pitchers who didn't make a start last season, and Kahnle's .206 average against was the lowest on the staff.
"He pretty much did it all [last season]," Weiss said. "We'll probably ease him in."
In 17 Triple-A games, Kahnle was 1-2 with a 3.68 ERA. He surrendered an earned run in seven of his first 11 outings, but he turned in scoreless showings in five of his last six appearances.
"It's nice to be back," Kahnle said. "That's what I've been working for."
Worth noting
• After leaving Sunday's game with what he called an "ocular migraine," outfielder-first baseman Ben Paulsen didn't seem overly concerned. Paulsen said bright sunlight or florescent lighting usually triggers his migraines, but they only occur "once or twice a year."
"You just start seeing spots everywhere," Paulsen said on Monday. "I was playing the outfield, and I saw two Chris Rusin's [on the mound]. So I was like, 'I better tell someone before I become a liability out here."
• Reliever LaTroy Hawkins, who's been on the DL with right biceps tendinitis since April 22, faced live hitters on Monday at Coors Field. Weiss said "everything went well" and that Hawkins' next step will be determined soon.
• Two scoring changes were made in the May 21 win over the Phillies. Paulsen's third-inning error was changed to a single for Chase Utley, and Brandon Barnes' seventh-inning single was changed to an error on Freddy Galvis.
