Rockies recall RHP Zach Putnam from Triple-A Colorado Springs

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Zach Putman from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Putnam (#54) will be in uniform and available for both games of the doubleheader today at Pittsburgh.

Putnam, 24, began the season at Triple-A Colorado Springs where he went 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA (7.1 ip, 1 er), three walks, 11 strikeouts and three saves in five relief outings for the Sky Sox. The Rochester, MI native was acquired by the Rockies from Cleveland in exchange for right-handed pitcher Kevin Slowey on January 20, 2012. The 6-foot-2 right-hander finished the 2011 season in the Majors with Cleveland, appearing in eight games and going 1-1 with a 6.14 ERA (7.1 ip, 5 er), two walks and nine strikeouts. Putnam has a 17-8 record with a 3.75 ERA (242.1 ip, 101 er) in 127 career Minor League games/15 starts. He owns an 8.62 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched ratio (232 so) and a 3.31 strikeout per walk ratio (232 so, 70 bb) in his Minor League career.

The new Collective Bargaining Agreement allows teams a 26th player for a doubleheader so long as the doubleheader is not rescheduled for the day after a scheduled game is postponed. The Rockies will announce their corresponding move following the conclusion of the second game today.

The Rockies currently have 39 players on the 40-man roster, including three players on the disabled list.
