Rondon throws 'pen session, elbow improving

PHILADELPHIA -- Cubs manager Rick Renteria said Hector Rondon has been experiencing right elbow soreness, and that factored into Renteria's decision to bring in Neil Ramirez over Rondon in Friday night's save situation.

Rondon threw a bullpen session before Saturday afternoon's Phillies-Cubs game. The reliever tossed 11 pitches, including three breaking balls.

"Didn't have any setbacks," Cubs manager Rick Renteria said. "So we'll see how he feels [Sunday], how he reacts. He looked good."

Renteria added that if Rondon does feel better on Sunday, he could be available to pitch.

The right-hander hasn't pitched in a game since June 6.

"We weren't concerned about it. I think we're just more airing on the side of caution. I think that's the prudent thing to do."
