Odor sets sights on return vs. Padres
Rangers second baseman recovering from torn fingernail
ARLINGTON -- Rougned Odor continues to get closer to returning to the Rangers' lineup, manager Jeff Banister said Sunday. The second baseman could be ready to go when the Rangers visit the Padres on Monday, six days after he tore a fingernail on his throwing hand while fielding a ball.
Banister said throwing accurately could be difficult for Odor, who spent some time before Sunday's game working on his throwing.
"I think Rougie is going to feel some discomfort for the rest of the year," Banister said. "Each day that we take him out there he's learning to throw through that pain. It's a different feeling for him … the finger that's hurt is the last thing that will touch the baseball."
Odor had homered in two of his last three games and had hit .349 (29-for-83) in his last 22 games. Since the All-Star break, he leads the team in batting average (.328) and has seven home runs and 19 RBI in 35 games.
In Odor's absence, rookie Hanser Alberto started five consecutive games at second base, including Sunday against the Orioles. Entering Sunday, Alberto was 4-for-19 in seven games since being recalled from Triple-A in mid-August.

• Catcher Robinson Chirinos, who is on the disabled list with a strained shoulder, will begin a rehab assignment in Nashville on Monday for Triple-A Round Rock.
• Catcher Carlos Corporan (strained left thumb) was back with the Rangers on Sunday and is expected to be reactivated when rosters expand Tuesday. He won't necessarily see much playing time because the tandem of Bobby Wilson and Chris Gimenez has developed "a nice little rhythm," manager Jeff Banister said.
• Manager Jeff Banister said the Rangers will call up "less than a handful" of players when rosters expand Tuesday, but they will likely add more after the Minor League postseason.
• The Padres reclaimed left-handed pitcher Chris Rearick on waivers Sunday. The Rangers claimed Rearick on waivers from San Diego on Aug. 26 and optioned him to Triple-A. They designated Rearick for assignment on Aug. 28, perhaps hoping to slip him through waivers and keep him without using a 40-man roster spot.
