Odor selected as 2015 Durrett Award winner

ARLINGTON -- Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor has been selected as the 2015 winner of the Richard Durrett Hardest Working Man Award from the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Odor will receive the award at the Texas Rangers Dr Pepper Awards Banquet on Friday, Jan. 22, at the Gaylord Texan Resort. The award is named in honor of Richard Durrett, the former Dallas-Fort Worth sportswriter who passed away suddenly in 2014, and it is presented to the player who shows significant improvement through his hard work.

Odor got off to a terrible start in 2015, hitting .144 in 29 games before being sent down to Triple-A on May 11. He was recalled on June 15 and batted .292 for the rest of the season. Overall he hit .261 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI in 120 games.

Worth noting
• Reliever Luke Jackson has ended his participation in the Dominican Winter League. Pitching for Escogido, Jackson threw eight scoreless innings, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out 13.

• Outfielder James Jones, who was acquired from the Mariners on Nov. 16, also is done with Aragua in the Venezuelan Winter League. He hit .341 with a .397 on-base percentage and a .462 slugging percentage.

• Infielder Hanser Alberto is hitting .343 for the Giagantes del Cibao in the DWL. He is currently second in the league in batting.
