Rox to open 2015 on road, face Cubs in home opener
DENVER -- Major League Baseball releasing its schedule marks a time of hope and on Monday, the Rockies found out their path for the 2015 season.
The Rockies open the season on April 6 with a three-game set in Milwaukee. It will be the third time the Rockies have begun the season with a road series against the Brewers after also doing so in 2013 and 2010.
The Rockies' first home series of the season begins on Friday, April 10 against the Cubs. Just like last season, Opening Day at Coors Field will be at the special time of 2:10 p.m. MT.
Colorado spends the rest of April taking a tour of the National League West, playing all four divisional rivals, including six games against the Giants (three home, three road).
The Rockies play 25 straight against NL West foes before the Interleague circuit begins with a two-game set against the Los Angeles Angels on May 12-13. Colorado will be playing the entire American League West in 2015 as the next leg of Interleague Play is a four-game, home-and-home with the Houston Astros from June 15-18.
From there, the Rockies will take a three-game visit to Oakland on June 29-July 1, host the Angels for two games on July 7-8 and the Rangers for three games on July 20-22 and then play six games against the Mariners starting with three at Coors Field (Aug. 3-5) and three at Safeco Field (Sept. 11-13).
The Rockies will be in Arizona on Independence Day weekend, but the team will still be hosting postgame fireworks shows on three Fridays: May 22 vs. the Giants, July 10 vs. the Braves and Sept. 25 vs. the Dodgers.
As for the other summer holidays, the Rockies will be in town for both Mother's Day (May 10 vs. the Dodgers) and Father's Day (June 21 vs. the Brewers).
On Memorial Day (May 25), the Rockies will begin a three-game series in Cincinnati. And on Labor Day (Sept. 7), the Rockies will be in San Diego.
One notable scheduling change has the Rockies now playing into October as the Rockies end the season on a six-game road trip in Arizona and San Francisco from Sept. 29 to Oct. 4. This season, the Rockies' season ends on Sept. 28.
Colorado plays its most home games in June next season with 17. The Rockies only have two off-days that month with 11 games on the road making for a jam-packed slate.
The Rockies also play at Coors Field 16 times in September, but are on the road for a total of 30 games in August through October.
The Rockies' most brutal road trip is a nine-game, West Coast swing from Sept. 7-16 against the Padres, Mariners and Dodgers. Colorado has posted only one winning road record in its 22-season history, so that stretch could very well make or break the season if the team is still in contention.
