Royals acquire catcher Drew Butera from Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have acquired veteran catcher Drew Butera from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for minor league infielder Ryan Jackson. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Royals have transferred left-handed pitcher Tim Collins from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Butera, 31, has played in 10 games for the Angels this season, batting .190 (4-for-21) with three runs scored. He is a veteran of the American League Central, having come up through the Minnesota Twins' minor league system, while he spent the first four years (2010-13) of his Major League career with Minnesota. He appeared in 61 games for the N.L. West Champion Los Angeles Dodgers last season, batting .188 (32-for-170) with six doubles, a triple and three homers. Since his debut in 2010, his 32.4 caught stealing percentage ranks ninth among active Major League catchers (minimum 225 games).

Jackson, 26, was acquired by the Royals from the Dodgers this offseason for cash considerations.
