Royals announce Opening Day roster

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 5, 2015) - The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have finalized their 25-man roster for Opening Day tomorrow vs. the Chicago White Sox at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals have selected the contracts of right-handed pitcher Ryan Madson and left-handed pitcher Franklin Morales, adding them to the 25-man Major League roster. To make room, the club has placed left-handed pitcher Tim Collins (recovery from Tommy John surgery) and right-handed pitcher Luke Hochevar (recovery from Tommy John surgery) on the 15-day disabled list to start the year.

The club has optioned left-handed pitcher Brian Flynn to Triple-A Omaha and assigned six other players: right-handed pitcher Joe Blanton, catcher J.C. Boscan, infielders Ryan Jackson, Whit Merrifield and Gabriel Noriega and outfielder Moises Sierra, to Omaha.

The Royals currently have 40 players on their 40-man roster, with right-handed pitcher Kris Medlen on the 60-day disabled list (recovery from Tommy John surgery). Kansas City's 25-man Opening Day roster is attached.
