Royals raise $60,000 for Special Olympics

KANSAS CITY -- When it comes to golf, Alex Gordon is a pretty good baseball player so he skipped the Royals Charities Celebrity Golf tournament on the team's open date on Monday at the National Golf Club in Parkville, Mo.

"I would love to go, but I can't even hit the ball off the tee," Gordon said, smiling. "It's not fun for me, so I just stick to baseball."

Some of his teammates -- Jeremy Guthrie, Danny Duffy, Brett Hayes, Mike Moustakas, James Shields, Bruce Chen and Tim Collins -- did attend the sold-out event. So did former Royals player Mike Sweeney and several other alumni, along with bullpen catcher Cody Clark and manager Ned Yost.

The event raised $60,000 for the Special Olympics of KC Metro.

Duffy didn't swing a club, but he must have been a great team captain. His team won the tournament.
