Royals Charities hosts T.A.K.E. Defense class at Kauffman Stadium on September 29

KANSAS CITY, MO (August 17, 2012) – Royals Charities is once again partnering with 99.7 The Point and The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation to host a T.A.K.E. Defense self-defense class on the field at Kauffman Stadium on Saturday, September 29.  The class, which runs from 10 a.m. to noon, is free-of-charge and open to all females ages 12 and older. 

Class participants must pre-register online at www.royals.com/takedefense.  All participants must sign a waiver, which is also available online.  Please note that individuals under the age of 18 will also need a signature from a parent or guardian to participate.  An interpreter for the hearing impaired will be provided for the class by Interpreting Solutions.

The T.A.K.E. Defense program represents a living legacy in honor of Ali Kemp, a metro teen who was murdered in 2002 while working as a lifeguard at a neighborhood pool in Johnson County, Kan.  The program aims to raise safety awareness and give women the self-protection skills they need to avoid becoming the victims of violent crime.  Participants will receive safety awareness tips and hands-on training in basic life-saving self-defense techniques during the class.

Royals Charities first hosted T.A.K.E. Defense sessions in 2008.  During two classes last year, more than 1,400 females were taught basic self-defense skills. 

T.A.K.E. Defense carries its message and training locally and across the United States each year to communities, colleges, and universities and has trained nearly 50,000 girls and women nationwide.  The program has been featured on America's Most Wanted, ABC's "20/20" and CBS Prime Time along with numerous local and regional newscasts.
