Holland misses save chance due to stiff neck

KANSAS CITY -- With a save situation on tap in the Royals' 3-0 win over the Reds on Tuesday night, closer Greg Holland never got up to get loose.

Instead, Wade Davis came into the game in the ninth and nailed down the save.

"Holly woke up this morning with a stiff neck," manager Ned Yost said. "The trainers worked on him during the game and it got better."

Holland has not pitched since last Thursday night, and he did not close out the Royals' shutout win over the Yankees on Sunday, but that was not a save situation.

Yost said Holland has not experienced neck issues before Monday night.

"We'll just see how he is tomorrow," Yost said, "and go from there."
