Royals Charities Hosts the Royals 5K Run/Walk on September 7

KANSAS CITY, MO (August 29, 2013) - The Kansas City Royals and Royals Charities host one of its biggest charity events - the Royals Charities 5K Run/Walk - on the morning of September 7 at Kauffman Stadium during the club's upcoming homestand. Participants receive a t-shirt and will have the opportunity to run a portion of the race on the warning track on the field. All proceeds from the event benefit Royals Charities.

In addition, the Royals will debut a new 2014 calendar featuring Royals players interacting with youngsters battling childhood cancer on September 7. Proceeds from the calendar, which will be available for $10 in the Majestic Team Store, will benefit Braden's Hope for Childhood Cancer.

Below is a list of the club's upcoming community efforts.

Monday, September 2 - Seattle Mariners vs. Royals presented by Sprint, 1:10 p.m.

·         50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson - Royals Charities is hosting a 50/50 Raffle for every Royals home game in 2013, giving fans more chances to win big! Royals Charities staffers will sell raffle tickets from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning. One winning ticket will be selected with the winner taking home half of the day's net proceeds. www.royals.com/5050.

 

Tuesday, September 3 - Seattle Mariners vs. Royals presented by Sprint, 7:10 p.m.

·         50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson - A Royals Charities fundraiser in which one lucky fan will win big! One winning ticket will be selected with the winner taking home half of the evening's net proceeds. On September 3, a portion of the proceeds will also be directed to the Kansas City, Kansas, Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (KCK RBI). www.royals.com/5050.

Wednesday, September 4 - Seattle Mariners vs. Royals presented by Sprint, 7:10 p.m.

  • Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout, and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.

Friday, September 6 - Detroit Tigers vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

·         Hosmer Big Brothers/Big Sisters Meet & Greet - During batting practice, Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer will meet children and mentors involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program of Greater Kansas City. Hosmer serves as a spokesperson for BBBS and hosted a recruiting event for "Bigs" earlier this year.

·         State Farm Pitch In Award - State Farm Insurance honors a local organization that positively impacts the Kansas City area during a special recognition prior to the game.

Saturday, September 7 - Detroit Tigers vs. Royals, 6:10 p.m.

·         Royals 5K Run/Walk - Royals Charities hosts the Royals 5K Run/Walk, which begins at 8 a.m.   Participants will run around the Truman Sports Complex and on the warning track of the field at Kauffman Stadium. All proceeds from the event benefit Royals Charities. Fans can register for both the Royals 5K Run/Walk online until September 5 at www.royals.com/run or at during packet pickup held at UltraMax Sports in Prairie Village, Kan., on September 5 and 6 or at Rivals Sports Bar on the morning of the race.

·         Braden's Hope Calendars Available in Majestic Team Store - Beginning September 7, Braden's Hope calendars will be available in the Majestic Team Store. Proceeds from the calendar, which features Royals players interacting with youngsters battling childhood cancer, will be available for $10 with proceeds benefiting Braden's Hope for Childhood Cancer.

Sunday, September 8 - Detroit Tigers vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

·         Royals Troopers - The Royals Grounds Crew welcomes select children who have a parent deployed through the United States military efforts overseas to join them in game preparations as part of the Royals Troopers program. The honored kids will help prepare the field prior to the game and will receive game tickets and Royals merchandise.

·         Alex's Lemonade Stand Presentation - Since the 2012 season, a portion of every freshly-squeezed lemonade sold at Kauffman Stadium has benefited Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) to support childhood cancer research. Outfielder Alex Gordon serves as a local spokesperson for the organization and will be on hand as ARAMARK and Royals Charities present a check to ALSF for the proceeds of the lemonade sales. Prior to the presentation, at approximately 11 a.m., Gordon will meet several of the families affected by childhood cancer who support ALSF.

·         Royals Charities Check Presentation to Special Olympics of Kansas City Metro - Prior to the game, Royals Charities will present a check for $60,000 to Special Olympics of Kansas City Metro for proceeds raised at the Royals Celebrity Golf Tournament held August 19.
