Baseball Equipment Drive & Gloves for Kids set for final homestand; Royals Charities hosts Shirts Off Their Backs on September 21

Royals Charities will host the annual Shirts Off Their Backs fundraiser in which fans can win a chance to receive a game-worn jerseys directly from a player during Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, September 21. In addition, the Royals will be hosting two events - the Baseball Tomorrow Fund Baseball Equipment Drive (Wednesday, September 18) and Gloves for Kids (Thursday, September 19) - during the final homestand of the season to help give disadvantaged youth the resources they need to play baseball and softball.

Fans also still have the opportunity to purchase a 2014 Braden's Hope calendar, which features Royals players interacting with youngsters battling childhood cancer. Calendars are available for $10 at the Royals Authentics store with all proceeds benefitting Braden's Hope for Childhood Cancer.

Below is a list of the club's upcoming community efforts.

Monday, September 16 - Cleveland Indians vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • 50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson - Royals Charities is hosting a 50/50 Raffle for every Royals home game in 2013, giving fans more chances to win big! Royals Charities staffers will sell raffle tickets from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning. One winning ticket will be selected with the winner taking home half of the day's net proceeds. www.royals.com/5050.

Tuesday, September 17 - Cleveland Indians vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Roberto Clemente Award Presentation - Major League Baseball and Chevy honor the Royals nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award. The award is given annually to the player who best represents the game of baseball through sportsmanship, community service and positive contributions to his team. The club's honoree, which will be announced next week, will receive an award and donation to the charity of his choice from Chevy. Fan voting and a special selection committee will determine the national winner, who will be announced at the World Series.
  • Child ID Kit Distribution - Catcher Salvador Perez is sponsoring the distribution of 10,000 Child ID Kits, which allow parents to record the physical characteristics and fingerprints of their children to keep at home. If ever needed, the Child ID Kit will give authorities vital information to assist efforts in locating a missing child. The National Child Identification Program was created by the American Football Coaches Association in 1997. Free kits will be distributed at Gates A, B, D and E from the sixth inning through the end of the game.

Wednesday, September 18 - Cleveland Indians vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Baseball Tomorrow Fund Baseball Equipment Drive - Together with shortstop Alcides Escobar and his wife, Francys, and pitcher Luis Mendoza and his wife, Monica, the Royals partner with the Baseball Tomorrow Fund on the ninth annual Baseball Equipment Drive to benefit Cristo Rey Kansas City. Mrs. Escobar and Mrs. Mendoza, along with Cristo Rey volunteers, will be outside of the Kia Diamond Club on the Field/Plaza Level to collect new and gently-used equipment and donations in exchange for autographed baseballs and photo cards from 5:30-7:30 p.m. www.royals/community.
  • Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout, and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.

Thursday, September 19 - Off Day

  • Gloves for Kids - The Royals and broadcaster Ryan Lefebvre, with support from 610 Sports and Rawlings, host Gloves for Kids from 5-7 p.m. at Kansas Sampler-Oak Park, located at 9750 Quivira Rd. in Lenexa, Kan. Select Royals will sign autographs for fans who donate at least $25 toward new baseball gloves for underprivileged youth. One group of players will sign from 5-6 p.m. with the other group to follow from 6-7 p.m. Please note that a $25 donation is required for each session. Friday, September 20 - Texas Rangers vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Stars of the Classroom - The Royals join the Missouri Lottery to honor outstanding educators through the Missouri Lottery Stars of the Classroom recognition program. Prior to six Royals games throughout the season, the Missouri Lottery and the Royals celebrate the achievements of top teachers from six school districts in the metro area.
  • 50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson - A Royals Charities fundraiser in which one lucky fan will win big! One winning ticket will be selected with the winner taking home half of the evening's net proceeds. On September 20, a portion of the proceeds will also be directed to the Medical Missions Foundation. www.royals.com/5050.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

Saturday, September 21 - Texas Rangers vs. Royals, 6:10 p.m.

  • Shirts Off Their Backs - In conjunction with Fan Appreciation Night, Royals Charities will host its annual Shirts Off Their Backs fundraiser presented by Mission Foods to benefit Variety - The Children's Charity of Greater Kansas City. Throughout the game, volunteers will sell $1 instant-win scratch tickets with winners receiving an autographed jersey right off the back of their favorite Royals player on the field following the game. Fans also have an opportunity to bid on one of the spots and secure their place on the field through September 16 by visiting www.royals.com/shirts.  
  • State Farm Pitch In Award - State Farm Insurance honors a local organization that positively impacts the Kansas City area during a special recognition prior to the game.

Sunday, September 22 - Texas Rangers vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

  • Royals Troopers - The Royals Grounds Crew welcomes select children who have a parent deployed through the United States military efforts overseas to join them in game preparations as part of the Royals Troopers program. The honored kids will help prepare the field prior to the game and will receive game tickets and Royals merchandise.
