Joe Blanton tossed 6.0 shutout innings, leading Omaha to an opening win over the Redbirds. The veteran righty fanned six while scattering four hits and two walks. Omaha scored all four runs in the fourth, with Casey Kotchman delivering a two-run double. Reymond Fuentes and Matt Fields added RBI singles. The series continued with a matinee today.

NW Arkansas Naturals (6-6)

Northwest Arkansas scored eight runs over the first three innings in a rubber game win. The Royals' No. 9 prospect Jorge Bonifacio hit his fourth homer in 12 games, matching his total in 132 games last year. Lane Adams recorded three hits and walk while Dusty Coleman and Alex Liddi each drove in two. Glenn Sparkman (6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 SO) earned his first Double-A win. The Naturals are off today before a series at Tulsa.

Wilmington Blue Rocks (6-6)

Wilmington's bats were quieted for a second straight night vs. Potomac. Dominique Taylor and Ramon Torres recorded singles for the Blue Rocks. Cody Reed took his first loss of the year, allowing three runs and two hits with a strikeout over 3.1 innings. Luke Farrell fanned eight over 4.2 innings while yielding three runs. The son of Boston manager John Farrell, Luke leads the Carolina League with 22 strikeouts over 13.2 innings (14.49 K's per 9.0 innings).

Lexington Legends (5-7)

HR: None

Lexington dropped a second straight to the Drive. Matt Tenuta (5.2 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO) took the loss, with Matthew Strahm striking out four with a run allowed over 3.1 innings. Humberto Arteaga, Carlos Garcia and Luis Villegas had two hits apiece for the Legends. Villegas was involved in all three runs, scoring twice and driving in one.
