Royals release veteran pitcher Tomko

KANSAS CITY -- Brett Tomko's comeback bid with the Royals ended Wednesday when the team released the 41-year-old pitcher.

Tomko, who started 10 games for Kansas City in 2008, held a 3.80 ERA at Triple-A Omaha.

From his Reds' debut in 1997 to his last appearance in an MLB game (2011 with the Rangers), Tomko has played with 10 different teams.

In 397 career appearances (266 starts) he has 100 wins and a 4.65 ERA
