Royals see high value in Rockett in ninth round

KANSAS CITY -- An arrest earlier this year led to a big drop in Daniel Rockett's stock, but a solid spring upon his return after charges were dropped helped him recoup some value when the Royals made him their ninth-round selection (264th overall) in the First-Year Player Draft on Friday.

Rockett has above-average power at the plate and a pretty good feel for hitting, though he does have a lot of swing and miss to his game. That leads scouts to wonder if he will ever be able to tap into that power consistently.

He has a good arm, average range and should profile well in right field. Rockett might be given a chance earlier than expected as a senior sign.
