Storm Chasers set for Game 3 of PCL series
KANSAS CITY -- After splitting the first two games of the best-of-five Pacific Coast League championship series, the Triple-A Omaha Storm Chasers will meet the Reno Aces at 7:05 p.m. CT on Friday at Werner Park in Omaha, Neb.
Omaha won the opener at Reno, 6-2, on Tuesday and then lost, 4-2, on Wednesday. Storm Chasers leadoff hitter and left fielder Whit Merrifield was 4-for-4 with a double in the loss.
In Game 3, Omaha will start right-hander Sugar Ray Marimon (5-4) against lefty Andrew Chafin (5-6) of the Arizona affiliate.
Also, right-handed pitcher Blake Wood and left-hander Chris Dwyer have cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to return to Omaha.
Wood and Dwyer were designated for assignment on Sept. 1 to clear space on Kansas City's 40-man roster for September callups. Dwyer was 4-4 with a 5.59 ERA in 28 games (five starts) for the Storm Chasers this summer. Wood, playing for four Minor League clubs, went 2-2 with a 4.43 ERA in 34 relief appearances.
