San Diego Padres acquire LHP Brad Wieck to complete trade for LHP Alex Torres

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres announced today they have acquired left-handed pitcher Brad Wieck from the New York Mets to complete their March 30, 2015 trade in which the Padres acquired right-handed pitcher Cory Mazzoni and a player to be named later in exchange for left-handed pitcher Alex Torres. Executive Vice President/General Manager A.J. Preller made the announcement.

Wieck, 23, has gone 3-5 with a 3.21 ERA (20 ER, 56.0 IP) and 74 strikeouts against 21 walks with a .256 opponents average allowed in 10 starts for Single-A Savannah this season. The left-hander was signed by the Mets as a seventh-round selection in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of Oklahoma City University. He made his professional debut last season with Short-Season Brooklyn in the Mets organization, going 1-1 with a 1.40 ERA (4 ER, 25.2 IP) and 39 strikeouts against six walks and a .181 opponents average in 16 relief appearances. He will be assigned to Single-A Fort Wayne for the Padres.
